FAQ's

How do I check for blemishes on the crystal, case, or caseback of my new watch?

First, you’ll want to make sure the protective film is removed—it can be easy to miss! If it turns out there is a blemish, wipe down the area, then send in a couple of photos zoomed in on where the blemishes are. This will help us figure out if it's the protective film we're seeing or which department we'll need to send this watch to get it fixed or replaced.

What should I do if my Neptune, Atlas, GBRS, or K II Ti watch isn’t working?

If it has an automatic movement, you'll want to give it a good wind (we say 70x) and wear the watch as normal. As your wrist swings, it will move the rotor/counterweight and wind the mainspring (what keeps it ticking when it’s not on your wrist). When taken off and not worn, that's when the power reserve starts to dwindle and you will see it not ticking. Shake it in your hand and you will see it start to tick. The winding speeds up the process of winding the mainspring. If the issue persists, please email service@sangininstruments.com or submit the form below.

Why is my automatic watch running fast or slow?

Before we have you send it in, please run a quick test: Wind your watch 70x and set it to time.gov. Either wear it as normal or leave it face up and track what the time reads after 24 hours and 48 hours. Please record the exact seconds on how far off it is, which will give us a better idea of what's going on with it. Depending on the model, +/- 5 seconds or +/- 10 seconds is within spec. If it’s far off, please message service@sangininstruments.com or submit the form below.

What should I do if my solar watch (early model Merlin) isn’t running properly?

Before we have you send it in, please run a quick test: Pull out the crown to the position where you would adjust the time. This keeps the watch from ticking. Then, put it under a light or on a windowsill (be sure it's not too humid). What we're doing is similar to jumpstarting a car and making sure all electronics are off. Give it about a day in sunlight and then set it. If it continues to run slowly or fails to start, please message service@sangininstruments.com or submit the form below.

How can I fix a stuck or hard-to-turn bezel on my watch?

The first trick before sending it our way: Make sure the crown is closed and put it into a cup with a dab of dish soap. Let it sit in the warm water for about 5 minutes, and then pull it out and turn the bezel. Repeat the process a few times, and it should clear out any gunk that's built up. If it doesn't work, please reach out to service@sangininstruments.com or submit the form below, and we'll pull the bezel, clean it and re-lube the gasket.

What can I do if I’ve stripped the screw bar on my watch?

Two options to remove the screw bar:

1. You can try and cut the screw bar off by using cutting pliers but you're going to need a strong one as the screw bar is very strong. If you manage to get the screw bar removed, there should be an extra set that came in your case when you received the watch. Otherwise, they are available for purchase online here: SCREW BARS

2. You can send it in to get it removed and replaced. Please message service@sangininstruments.com or submit the form below, and our technician will remove them and give you a new set.
